What are OxUNA & OxIMUN

Oxford University United Nations Association

Oxford University United Nations Association, abbreviated to OxUNA, is a student society run entirely by Oxford students, dedicated to promoting diplomacy, debate, and an understanding of the UN’s values and roles.

We organize frequent speakers events, an annual home MUN conference OxIMUN, multiple external conferences across the world, and frequent trips to debate in other MUN conferences across the world.

We are always looking for new partners and new opportunities, and we welcome any potential partners interested in either joining us in our goal to promote diplomacy and an international spirit.

Oxford International Model United Nations

The Oxford International Model United Nations (OxIMUN) is one of Europe’s leading Model UN conferences, held annually in the historic city of Oxford. It brings together delegates from around the world to debate global issues, engage with distinguished guest speakers, and participate in dynamic social events. Organized by students of the University of Oxford on behalf of the Oxford University United Nations Association (OxUNA), its origins date back to model debates of the League of Nations held in Oxford as early as 1921.

Founded in 2004, OxIMUN celebrates its 20th edition in 2024. Over the past two decades, it has welcomed over 9,000 university students worldwide, providing a free and competitive platform for intellectual debate on pressing international topics. Each year, OxIMUN continues to elevate the standards of global discourse, consistently exceeding expectations.

Why are OxUNA & OxIMUN

Pakistan | LUMUN × OxIMUN

In collaboration with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), OxIMUN played a pivotal role in organizing LUMUN 2024, Pakistan’s largest Model UN conference. With over 1,500 delegates participating, this event exemplifies OxIMUN’s dedication to fostering diplomacy in diverse geopolitical landscapes. By engaging with students from South Asia, OxIMUN strengthens international dialogue and encourages young minds to think critically about pressing global issues.

Serbia | OACOXIMUN

Expanding its influence to the Balkan region, OxIMUN joined forces with OACMUN to launch OACOXIMUN 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia. This initiative introduced the first-ever Crisis Committees in the region, welcoming nearly 200 delegates to engage in rigorous simulations of high-stakes international diplomacy. The conference reinforces OxIMUN’s commitment to making diplomacy accessible worldwide, bringing Oxford’s prestigious MUN experience to new cultural and political landscapes.

Iraq | IYMUN × OxIMUN

Recognizing the importance of rebuilding international understanding in conflict-affected regions, OxIMUN has partnered with Iraqi Youth MUN (IYMUN) in Mosul, Iraq, to provide academic support and guidance. By fostering diplomatic engagement in a region where international discourse is crucial, OxIMUN hopes to inspire a new generation of leaders who can champion peace and diplomacy in the Middle East. This initiative exemplifies the true spirit of Model UN—using dialogue as a tool for reconciliation and understanding.

China | OxIMUN China

OxIMUN China is the first OxIMUN initiative organized by students from Ivy League and G5 universities, marking OxIMUN’s fourth international project. Led by Mingyao Gu, founder of the United Ivy League Forum for Leadership and Youth (UILFLY), and Oliver Davis, Secretary-General of Oxford University United Nations Association (OxUNA), this initiative aims to bring Oxford’s renowned MUN academics to China, fostering high-level debate, diplomacy, and global discourse.

As one of Europe’s premier Model United Nations conferences, OxIMUN has welcomed over 9,000 university students worldwide over the past 20 years. Hosted annually in Oxford, its academic rigor and commitment to fostering global leaders have made it an unparalleled platform for MUN excellence. OxIMUN China continues this legacy, providing a unique opportunity for students in China to engage in world-class debates and gain firsthand experience in high-level diplomatic simulations.

With the combined expertise of Ivy League students and Oxford’s distinguished MUN tradition, OxIMUN China aspires to bridge the gap between academic excellence and diplomatic engagement, shaping the next generation of global leaders.
